The Region and the environment
The environment and sustainable development are at the heart of the concerns of the Regional Council of Burgundy. They are one of the three major strategic directions of the 2007-2013 CPER (State Contract Project - Region).
The preservation of the environment is also one of seven major projects of the CPER.

Planning and Development Burgundy preserving the quality of its environment, fight against anything that might threaten our natural environment, for ourselves and our successors, these are the objectives of the Regional Council. Information, education and development of environmental measures are the guarantors of the quality of life.

- By participating in the environmental education of all the Burgundians (support for the construction of the home environment, school trips to the environment , Educational missions, exhibitions, etc.)..
Fight Against Climate Change Through the Climate Energy Plan 2007-2013
- By promoting energy conservation,
- Diversifying energy sources,
- By educating and informing the public on global warming and renewable energy.
Promote Environmentally Friendly Practices
- By mobilizing the wine industry to implement better management of wine effluents,
- Improving the overall management of waste and reducing landfill:
- development of beneficial reuse of waste,
- support local initiatives in the creation of waste dumps and establishment of separate collection of household hazardous waste,
- support the approach taken by the State at the PREDAMA Burgundy (Regional Plan for waste disposal other than household and similar)
- management of toxic waste in dispersed quantities (DTQD) produced by schools under the jurisdiction of the Region
Supporting Corporate Environmental Initiatives
- Through the program Prometheus for companies:
- reducing pollution at source, by the introduction of clean technologies,
- comprehensive approach to environmental problems within industries, through collective action. The approach may lead to the establishment of an environmental management system (EMS) recognized in the form of ISO 14001 certification or registration Eco-Audit.
Burgundy is:
- 9000 sq km of forests
- Two rivers (the Loire and the Seine)
- 12 000 km of rivers
- 20 000 ha of lakes and ponds
- 541 sites have been identified in Natural Areas of Ecological Interest, Fauna and Flora (ZNIEFF)
- 3 nature reserves
- 20 spaces receive orders of protection Biotiope
- A Regional Park in the Morvan.
