The Burgundy Canal
Opened to navigation in 1832, the Burgundy Canal connects - on 242 km and 189 locks - the river Yonne, from Migennes, the Saone at Saint-Jean-de-Losne. Along the silver ribbon, boaters and hikers will find the Auxois, castles and abbeys. They will take a history course on the hill of Alesia with the imposing statue of Vercingetorix or visit the first interpretive center dedicated to the waterway: Cap Canal in Pouilly-en-Auxois, where lies the highest summit level of the waters in Europe (378m).
The Canal du Centre
In digging the Canal du Centre in the late eighteenthe century that the clay deposits were discovered leading from the end of the nineteenthe century, the installation of many plants close to the channel, Digoin in Chalon-sur-Saone. Built in glorious witness to the industrial past, facing the Canal du Centre, at a place called The Touillards in Ciry-le-Noble, the former pottery factory Vairet-Baudot (transformed into a museum), takes the visitor to discover centuries-old techniques of making ceramics, skills and working conditions of the time. The museum of the Canal du Centre Ecuisses reflects the evolution of the waterway, the history of ships and of men.
The Nivernais Canal
Built in the late eighteenthe century, the Canal du Nivernais, links - Decize to Auxerre - the basin of the Loire to the Seine. Best known for the floating of timber, it is now, as all the channels narrow gauge, deserted by the barges, and now popular with boaters. It has no less than one hundred sixteen locks conducive to halt. Over water, the course is full of exceptional sites such as ponds Baye and Vaux, tanks that are home to a remarkable ecological environment, the Valley of Sardy and 16 locks aligned, not to mention the famous vaults of the Collancelle, a 760 m tunnel hidden under a green where there is a peaceful world of darkness and silence.
Seille
River tourism mecca bourguignon, Seille River offers boaters on 39 km from Tournus to Louhans, a beautiful green path through the Bresse. To discover the channeled part of this bucolic river, you can take a boat trip departing from Louhans or Pont de Vaux (in Ain).
