TRANSPORT

Region and intermodality

What intermodality?

It is the fact to involve several different modes of transport. In the broader sense, this is to allow travelers and businesses a combination of transport modes on the same trip. This implies to facilitate the change of mode of transport and offer alternatives to road transport in particular.

Why encourage intermodality?

Today, the road represents 86% of freight transport and 90% of passenger journeys in Burgundy. About global warming, and to meet the commitments of the Kyoto agreements, Burgundy has to develop alternative modes of transport to reduce its emissions of greenhouse gas emissions. The depletion of fossil resources and unpredictable fluctuations in oil prices also encourage to consider transport otherwise.

In addition, Burgundy already has many strengths to develop intermodality: it has become a traffic hub community. It enjoys an extensive network of inland waterways and is the second French region in mileage of railways.

Finally, the development of multimodal logistics platforms allows companies to compete Burgundy and the region to be attractive for the establishment of businesses.

For the passenger

Encourage intermodality:

  • developing alternative modes of transport (cycling trails, bike paths, TER, TRAM ...),
  • facilitating the change of mode of transport, including through the creation of multimodal stations , Can easily switch from bike to train or bus or the taxi,
  • by establishing a platform of services common to different modes of transport: Mobigo! ,
  • ensuring coordination of networks for routes and schedules,
  • working on the establishment of a single transport ticket for travel on all networks.

For the transport of goods

Encourage intermodality:

In developing the transport share of waterways:

  • through the maintenance and management of waterways (reconstruction of dams, locks renovation, improvement of navigation ...),
  • through a plan for training in inland navigation,
  • through the recovery and development component of ship repair in Chalon-sur-Saone.

By supporting the creation and development of multimodal platforms enabling the change of mode of transport, as platform Pagny (Gold Coast), or the port of Gron (Yonne).
