HAPPY 2012

Mobilize our energies to be free!

The new year is a special moment to mark a special attention to others and to those who are dear to us. So my thoughts go first to those who live in suffering and isolation. May this new year relieves their difficulties and brings hope and comfort to the most vulnerable among us.

This is a time of uncertainty and doubt and we all hope for better days. 2012 will be a momentous year for the future of France and its territories. In a context of sustainable economic and social crisis, two major electoral events will allow you to choose the path that our country will follow in the next five years.

The change that I call for help to consider new perspectives for the Regions. Faced with ever-increasing disengagement of the State, everyday we are committed to the most fragile, for those who need a second chance, those who are discriminated against.

Burgundy and the Burgundians will face many challenges in the coming months and the Region will be at their side. Also, I will focus in 2012 to continue the effort to preserve our ability to rebound from the crisis. It is more important than ever in these uncertain times, maintain the purchasing power of families, to maintain equality of opportunity and access to knowledge, to reduce inequalities, to support and stimulate economic activity and hence employment and invest for the future.

The year 2012 will be a tough year! However, we must not give up. Also, I invite you to mobilize all our forces and energies to be free but act together.

Happy New Year to all!

Francois Patriat,
Chairman of the Regional Council of Burgundy
Senator of the Gold Coast
